Osmium Applications

Applications

Osmium is quite hard, 7.0 by Mohs hardness, and it is its most applicable ability. It is used as a dopant in a great deal of hard alloys with highest durability such as in platinum, tungsten or cobalt alloys for high-precious pen nibs tipping. Osmium is the component of extra hard irridium alloys used in rest pins, high-precision instruments rotating axes and small contacts, as well as in Iridium-Ruthenium alloys for fountain pen balls, Palladium alloys used in thermoionic diodes, Cobalt-Nickel composites in electric contacts.
